The Everyday Heroes of September 11th.

By DouglasTull

Firefighters are Heroes everyday and they serve out of love and devotion.

September 11th, 2001 this nation’s peace came undone,

On that day the two towers fell and our world became a living hell.

Planes were crashing and the Capital begin to burn

The smoke did rise and the flames did churn.

As the havoc ran wild and the buildings did fall

343 brave men and women answered the call

As others ran out, they ran in

Climbing higher and higher into to lion’s den.

They face death everyday so this was nothing new,

This is what they do to protect me and you.

These are the everyday heroes, giving daily sometimes to their end.

They are our neighbors, our family, and always our friends.

They give up their holidays, their weekends, and many long nights

And often the things they see are terrible sights.

Eight years ago war came to our shore

It wasn’t the military that was struck but much, much more.

Normal people were killed, you know everyday Joes.

These were soft targets the killers had chose.

As the battle raged on and dust filled the air,

Death was running rampant without worry or care.

The lights and sirens were wailing as the responders arrived

Many not knowing they would never come out alive.

These are the everyday heroes.  Who day after day

Answer the call and go in harms way.

They choose to serve out of love for their community

And that’s why they are the everyday heroes to me.
